Gloria Jean Davenport (Sis)

Gloria Jean Davenport (Sis), 73, passed away peacefully at 12:40 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Serenity Springs in Jasonville, Indiana, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Linton, Indiana, on May 27, 1953, Gloria was the daughter of Raymond Hancock and Bertha (Graves) French. She graduated from Linton-Stockton High School with the Class of 1971.

Gloria's life was defined not by extraordinary moments, but by the countless ordinary ones she filled with love. She found joy in tending her flowers and vegetable gardens, watching hummingbirds dance among the blooms, taking scenic drives, browsing craft fairs and farmers markets, visiting casinos with her daughter Angel, and spending time with the people she loved most. She believed life didn't have to be extravagant to be beautiful. Throughout her life, Gloria worked hard to help provide for her family. One of her favorite chapters was serving as a flight attendant for a regional airline, where she enjoyed meeting new people, traveling to new places, and embracing the adventure that came with seeing the world. Her love of travel never faded, and she always kept an ever-growing bucket list of places she hoped to visit, taped to her desk.

For fifty-five years, Don and Gloria shared a life together, raising a family and building a lifetime of memories. Like many long marriages, theirs experienced seasons of both joy and hardship, but they remained committed to one another through life's many chapters. In the end, they were together, sharing a room during Gloria's final days, where Don held her hand, told her he loved her, and remained beside her until the end.

Gloria was a devoted mother whose greatest happiness came from her family. After several years apart, she received one of life's greatest blessings - the reunification with her daughter, Crystal. It was something Gloria had wished and prayed for many times. During her final months, Crystal lovingly cared for both her mother and father alongside Angel, filling those precious days with conversations, forgiveness, laughter, and love. Their renewed relationship became one of Gloria's greatest gifts, bringing peace and joy during the final chapter of her life.

Gloria also discovered a special friendship with her daughter, Angel. Together they spent years building a small organic farm, working side by side through long summer days, attending farmers markets and craft fairs, traveling together, and celebrating life's victories whenever they could. Those simple moments became some of Gloria's most treasured memories. Living next door to Angel allowed the grandchildren to literally wear down a path between the two homes. Few things brought Gloria greater happiness than looking out from her porch and watching her family gather, grow, and simply be together.

Gloria was a woman of extraordinary resilience. Over the course of her life, she courageously battled cancer four separate times. Through every diagnosis, surgery, treatment, and setback, she faced each challenge with remarkable determination, quiet strength, and a sense of humor that never left her.

Her radiation oncologist, Dr. Thomas Schmitz, formed a special bond with Gloria early in her treatment nearly six years ago. After her passing, he shared words that perfectly described the woman so many had come to love: "She was one determined lady. I loved her sense of humor." Gloria's courage, warmth, and resilience left a lasting impression not only on Dr. Schmitz, but on the entire oncology team who walked beside her throughout her journey. Those who knew Gloria could not have described her better.

Gloria was a member of the Linton VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a former Greene County Master Gardener and was well known for her talent in baking and decorating beautiful cakes that became part of many family celebrations.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald R. Davenport; daughters, Angel (Paul) Mikusak and Crystal Wadsworth; grandchildren, Devon Wadsworth, Owen Wadsworth, Nikolaus Mikusak, Abigail Mikusak, and Emma Mikusak; Eric Mikusak and Jeanette Avila; great-grandchildren, Violet June Griffin, Olivia Wadsworth, Liam Wadsworth, Isabelle Avila, Lena Mikusak (Hickey), and Joey Mikusak (Hickey); brother, Scott (Michelle) Hancock; sister-in-law, Ellen Hancock; along with many extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Hancock and Bertha (Graves) French, and her beloved brother, Robert Hancock.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the remarkable caregivers at Serenity Springs and Southern Care Hospice. Their compassion, dignity, and kindness brought comfort not only to Gloria, but to her entire family. They cared for her with extraordinary tenderness, held her hand, comforted her loved ones, and treated both Gloria and Don as though they were members of their own family. Their love during Gloria's final days will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, a Walton Funeral Service funeral home, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will resume immediately following the service until 6:00 p.m.

A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

If you wish to remember Gloria, spend time with someone you love, plant a flower, watch for a hummingbird, or simply enjoy the beauty of an ordinary day. Those were the moments that filled Gloria's life with happiness, and they are the legacy she leaves behind.

Among Gloria's belongings, her family found these handwritten words, perhaps the simplest reflection of the way she lived her life:

“Be nice, love one and all. Enjoy what you love to do. Time is short—live your life to the fullest. Honor your loved ones by giving of your time.”
