Lois Ann Heaton Kirchoff

Lois Ann Heaton Kirchoff, 88, of Terre Haute formerly of Bloomfield, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Wyndmoor Assisted Living in Terre Haute, IN. She passed away after battling Pompe disease for several decades.

Born December 12, 1937 in Bloomfield, she was the daughter of Dexter and Nona Blanche (Bender) Heaton. Lois was the class President of the Bloomfield High School class of 1955. She later earned her B.A. in Elementary Education from Indiana State University, and earned her Masters degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University. On March 24, 1957 she married Rex Edwin Kirchoff of Edwardsport, Indiana.

Lois taught 5th grade, Kindergarten, and 2nd grade at Eastern Greene Elementary for 22 years. She was a member and former President of the Tri Kappa sorority. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bloomfield where she served as Chair of the Board of Deacons and as a member of Bright Beginnings Daycare/Pre-School Board.

Lois impacted the lives of so many students, friends, and even strangers over the course of her 88 years. She was often greeted by former students who remembered her from grade school many years after they graduated high school and college.

She loved her family dearly. Her last evening on earth was spent with family – smiling as she watched her great-grandchildren playing around her bedside. And, as always, every visit ended with the words, “I love you.” And if, perhaps, one could beat her to the line and say, “I love you” first, she always had the last word, “I love you more!”

But her highest priority was her faith in Jesus. She read her Bible every day that she was able. She taught Sunday School, shared Bible stories and sang in the choir. And now, despite years of disability, she is able to walk, run and dance with Jesus – much to the relief of her family and, no doubt, much to her own delight!

Surviving relatives include: her husband, Rex Kirchoff; son, Marc (Jill) Kirchoff of Terre Haute; their children, Jonathan (Alexis) Kirchoff and their daughter Jordyn Kirchoff; Jessie (Zane) Money and their daughter, Amelia Money all of Terre Haute; Daughter, Susan (Tim) Pittman of Terre Haute; their children, Connor Pittman of Indianapolis and Spencer Pittman of Spring Hill, Tennessee; Son, Brian (Heather) Kirchoff of Jasper, Indiana; their children, Addison (Garrett) Betz and Dexi Kirchoff all of Jasper; one brother, John (Laura) Heaton of Shelbyville, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald Heaton, and sisters Martha Glover and Marjorie McIntyre.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Bloomfield, with Rev. Nathan Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview cemetery in Bloomfield.

Public visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the First Baptist Church of Bloomfield. Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.

The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Bloomfield.
