Timothy “Tim” Raymond Sears, 77, was first transported to Greene County General Hospital by the Greene County Ambulance Service then airlifted by AirEvac medical helicopter to a hospital in Indianapolis. The extent of his injuries or his current condition is not known at time of posting but family has been notified and were reported to be enroute to the hospital following the crash.

Worthington Town Marshal Jim O’Malley was dispatched around 11:16 a.m. on Friday, October 8, to a crash between a golf cart and a semi-tractor trailer on State Road 67/US 231, also known as South Commercial Street, at the intersection with Hanna Street to the east and Terre Haute Road to the west.

Chief Deputy Major George Dallaire and Deputy Terry Wade, both of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, also responded to the scene.

O’Malley said Sears was operating a golf cart westbound on Hanna Street when he stopped at the highway then pulled out onto the highway directly into the path of an oncoming semi-truck that was northbound into Worthington on the highway. The truck driver attempted to avoid a collision but the golf cart struck the tractor. Sears was ejected off the cart into the path of the trailer and was found lying in the roadway with severe injuries. A source said the injuries were major but Sears was conscious and coherent.

Ernest Biltz of Worthington was traveling behind Sears and witnessed the crash then gave a statement to police.

The driver of the semi was identified as Randy Max Burress of Westphalia, Ind. He was operating a truck owned by B & M Excavating of Edwardsport. The truck was reported to have been fully loaded at the time of the crash. Burress was not reported to have been injured.

Agencies responding to the incident included the Worthington Police Department, Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Greene County Ambulance Service, Worthington Fire Department and AirEvac.
