Worthington man arrested on drug-related charges

A 63-year-old Worthington man was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and paraphernalia on June 20 stemming from a December 2022 incident.

Worthington Police Department Chief Jacob Gambill arrested Gregg Allen Brown on charges stemming from an incident that occurred on Dec. 5, 2022. At that time, Worthington Police Officer Trey Sparks initiated a traffic stop on Brown’s vehicle as it was traveling without a working right headlight.

After advising Brown of the reason for the traffic stop, Sparks asked for his license and registration. According to the probable cause affidavit, when he retrieved his registration from the glovebox, Indiana Conservation Officer Cole Hollingworth advised Sparks illegal drugs were visible in plain sight. In the glovebox was a yellow pill bottle with a plant-like material inside. The substance later field-tested positive for marijuana.

During a pat down, Sparks, according to the probable cause affidavit, located a glass smoking device containing burnt residue in the right leg pocket of Brown’s pants. Hollingsworth located a tube of lip balm in the front pocket of Brown’s bibs which contained a crystal-like substance. The substance later field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Sparks searched Brown’s vehicle and according to the probable cause affidavit located a black bag on the passenger side with a smoking device inside. The device had a plant-like material inside which later field-tested positive for marijuana.

Brown has been charged with: Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, possession of marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C Misdemeanor.

He was initially held without bond; however, when he appeared in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing on June 26, a bond of $10,000 surety with 10% cash allowed was set. He was later released after posting $1,000.
