A Worthington man, stopped for speeding in Worthington, pulled over in a grocery store parking lot and was arrested. He’s accused of driving drunk and not cooperating with law enforcement.

Shadric Scott Jones, 39, Worthington, was arrested by Deputy Marshal Russell Walls of the Worthington Police Department on Sunday, March 30.

Officer Walls reported he saw Jones driving a black Dodge Dakota pickup truck on Jefferson Street/State Road 157 around 4:50 p.m., and that the brakes locked up and the front tires skidded in a turn to head east on Third Street. Radar indicated the truck was then going 34 in a 25 mph zone.

After Walls hit the lights and siren to make a traffic stop, the truck continued east on Third Street then crossed State Road 67 to stop in the parking lot of a grocery store.

Jones was the driver. Walls said Jones seemed confused and disoriented when he was asked for his driver’s license and registration information, and he showed other signs of impairment plus Walls said he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Jones.

When Walls asked Jones what he was on, Jones allegedly said, “Lettuce.”

Walls requested backup and WPD Reserve Deputy Marshal Green responded to the scene along with Deputy Marshal Jordan Allor of the Bloomfield Police Department and Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy David Elmore.

Standard field sobriety testing could not be completed, allegedly due to the driver’s lack of balance.

According to Walls, Jones then said he was going to get back in his truck and turned to walk away but was stopped.

Jones is reported to have refused to cooperate and was taken to the ground – there was a scuffle.

Jones was transported to the sheriff’s department where he refused to take a chemical test. A search warrant was approved and when personnel from the Greene County Ambulance Service arrived, he still refused so was secured in a restraint chair in order for a blood draw to be conducted – results are pending.

When Jones was booked in around 7:41 p.m., his bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He was released the next day after posting $500 cash.

Jones was scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court early Thursday, April 11, for an initial hearing to be formally charged with:

Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and
Resisting law enforcement – knowingly or intentionally forcibly resists, a Class A misdemeanor.

In another case that is still pending against Jones, he was arrested on Monday, August 13, by Indiana State Police Master Trooper Eric Nash. In that case, Jones has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.
