When Emma Leann Schultz appeared in Greene Superior Court late yesterday, she was charged with dealing methamphetamine and her bond was set at $50,000. She’d only been in Greene County for one day before two GCSD detectives and one deputy showed up at her door. She had just moved and they didn’t give her a chance to get sales going before she was arrested and booked in to the Greene County Jail.

Greene County Sheriff’s Detective Jim O’Malley, Detective Shawn Cullison and Deputy Chris Anderson had a tip and arrived at her house around 3:44 p.m. on April 2. GCSD had gotten a call from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department. CCSD had information that Schultz, age 33, was staying at a residence on South Strauser Road, Springville. She was wanted on two warrants out of Clay County, one involving a charge of Level 4 felony burglary and another in a misdemeanor case involving possession of marijuana.

Schultz opened the door and agreed to let the officers come inside. When Det. Cullison explained she had warrants out for her arrest, she asked if she could get her phone off the kitchen table. Cullison agreed and followed her, then saw a glass smoking device with white residue lying in plain view on the table next to the phone.

The officers asked if they could search the home. She agreed and signed a form giving consent to search. She was the only person living in the residence.

According to information prepared by Det. Cullison, the search yielded numerous items of evidence including a quantity of methamphetamine – 7.7 grams, marijuana, smoking devices, digital scales and small plastic bags.

Schultz was transported and booked in to the Greene County Jail by Det. O’Malley who then conducted an interview. O’Malley said she acknowledged knowing there was methamphetamine in the house and she admitted that she uses it and sells it.

O’Malley reported that when he asked her if she had sold any methamphetamine in Greene County, she said no, because she had only been in Greene County for a day, but she knew people from all over and it wasn’t going to be a problem.

Schultz also signed a consent to search her phone and Cullison reported the phone contained several photos of what appeared to be methamphetamine and the same digital scale found in the house. He also found a text message she sent on March 27 that said, “I just went and picked up a half O of adrenaline so I can flip it fast and have some money when income down.”

After her arrest, Schultz was transported to the Clay County Jail and she’s been incarcerated there since the day of her arrest.

But on April 5, a new case was filed against her in Greene County.

She was transported back to Greene County Tuesday by GCSD Special Deputy Karen Oliphant, to appear in court for an initial hearing in the new case.

She was charged with:

Dealing in methamphetamine in an amount between five and ten grams, a Level 3 felony,
Possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor, and
Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

The judge appointed a public defender to represent her, and set her bond in this case at $50,000 surety with ten percent allowed.

When Schultz was first arrested in Greene County, jail records showed her with a home address in Brazil, Ind. When she was transported back, the jail record showed her with a home address in Terre Haute. But the court record shows her address as the Clay County Jail.

Following the hearing, Schultz was transported back to the Clay County Jail.
