Woman arrested after passing an off-duty deputy in a no-passing zone
/A driver who allegedly crossed the center line then was speeding and passed an off-duty deputy in a no-passing zone over the weekend was arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail.
Katrina Leeann Dolton, 36, Switz City, was arrested by Deputy Devan Goad of the Greene County Sheriff's Department last Saturday morning, October 8.
At approximately 9:08 AM last Saturday, Dalton was driving a white Ford F-150 eastbound on East State Road 54, Bloomfield, reportedly at a high rate of speed, when she allegedly crossed the center line and then passed an off-duty deputy in a no-passing zone. The off-duty deputy, Sergeant Jordan Allor, contacted the sheriff's department and Deputy Devan Goad was dispatched to locate the vehicle.
Deputy Goad reported that he was on his way westbound when he saw the vehicle come around a curve at a high rate of speed then jerk the steering wheel back toward the center of the road. He turned around and caught up with the vehicle as it was turning into a gas station where he initiated a traffic stop.
When Dolton was asked what was going on, she allegedly said she was trying to get to the clinic to get her methadone. Goad said her pupils were restricted and she was talking in an excited manner. During standardized field sobriety testing, she couldn't stand still and said that for medical reasons she couldn't complete the testing. Deputy Goad told her he didn't believe she should be driving and she allegedly agreed then agreed to take a blood draw. Dolton allegedly said she would not pass the blood draw because of her methadone usage and it would show that she was impaired. After she was placed in a patrol vehicle, she allegedly made a voluntary statement that she had taken a Xanax the previous day but she didn't think there was anything illegal in her vehicle.
After Sergeant Allor took an inventory of her vehicle, he reported finding an unidentified pill and a blue cut straw. Jail officers later located a pill in her wallet that was identified as Xanax which is a controlled substance.
While Sergeant Allor was working on the inventory, Deputy Goad transported Dolton to Greene County General Hospital for a blood draw and he said that on the way to the hospital she again stated she shouldn't have been driving because she had taken methadone and Xanax which she purchased from an individual. She admitted she did not have a prescription for it.
Dolton was then transported to the sheriff's department where she was booked into the Greene County Jail at 10:39 AM. She was being held without bond pending court appearance.
The date of her initial hearing in Greene Superior Court is not yet known but she is being charged with:
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in the body, a Class C misdemeanor, and
Possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor.
