Video shows former employee stealing money from a customer's wallet
/A Linton woman has been summoned to appear in Greene Superior Court after a report of a theft was made to the Linton Police Department last month.
A resident went to the Linton Police Department to file a complaint on Oct. 12. She stated that she lost her wallet at Wal-Mart on Oct. 9 and although the wallet was returned, when she went to pick it up, she opened the wallet and found money missing. The complainant, who opened the wallet in the presence of a Wal-Mart manager, said she believed $80 was missing.
Linton Police Department Chief Paul Clark took the complainant’s report and began working to identify the person responsible for the theft. A Wal-Mart Asset Protection Employee provided Clark with video footage of the incident and identified the person responsible for the alleged theft as a former employee, Celia Deluna.
Chief Clark reviewed the video footage and observed that the female, identified by the Asset Protection Employee as Deluna, was working a register. The complainant’s wallet was lying next to the register. Video footage shows Deluna move the wallet from the register and put it on a shelf beneath the register. Deluna then takes the wallet with her as she moves to another register. At that time, she places it beneath the register. Deluna can be seen via video footage leaning against a register counter where she had previously placed the wallet, attempting to avoid attention. The movements are made while positioning her body to disguise herself as leaning against the counter. Whenever another person is near her, she stops the movement, Clark wrote in the probable cause affidavit. The Asset Protection Employee noted that after Deluna interacted with the wallet, it remained unbothered until he located it.
Deluna has received a summons to appear in Greene Superior Court Dec. 15 where she will be formally charged with theft, a Class A Misdemeanor.
