Two teens injured in Wednesday morning crash
/Two teens were injured and transported to the hospital after the driver swerved to avoid a deer, causing the vehicle to hit a utility pole, flip, then slam into a residence.
The crash involving one vehicle occurred around 6:58 a.m. today, Wednesday, January 15, in the area of State Road 45 and Johnson Lane in eastern Greene County.
Deputy James Carpenter of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, the investigating officer, responded along with personnel from the Center Fire Department the Greene County Ambulance Service and Sturgis Towing.
Tyrus D. Horn, 19, Bloomington, was driving a tan 2001 Ford Expedition northbound on SR 45 with one passenger onboard, Tory McCraw, age 17.
Deputy Carpenter said Horn told him a deer ran onto the edge of the roadway and he swerved in an effort to miss hitting the deer. The vehicle then ran off the north side of the highway and hit a utility pole.
Deputy Carpenter reported the vehicle then flipped over onto its top, then slid and hit the residence of Gerald Hammer.
Carpenter said the crash caused damage to both the inside and outside of the Hammer home. The residents were at home at the time of the crash but they were not injured.
Horn was transported by Greene County Ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital with pain to his ribs and a laceration in his rib area.
McCraw was transported by Greene County Ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital with pain in her legs and head.
