Saturday night crash in Illinois claimed life of Greene County woman, injured another
/A Linton woman lost her life and another Linton woman was injured in a tragic head-on crash last Saturday evening near Lawrenceville, Illinois.
The crash involving two vehicles occurred at 6:56 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, approximately one mile west of Lawrenceville, Ill., on US 50.
According to the Illinois State Police, Shonda French, 43, of Linton was driving a green 1997 Jeep Cherokee westbound on US 5o.
Derek Hughes, 38, Lawrenceville, was driving a black 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound on the same highway.
The preliminary investigation indicated the westbound Jeep driven by French crossed the center line and struck the Tahoe driven by Derek Hughes head on in the eastbound lane.
Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch on the south side of the highway.
Jessica Nicole White, 37, of Linton, was a passenger in French’s Jeep. White was pronounced deceased on the scene. French was transported to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
Passengers in the Tahoe driven by Derek Hughes included Roger W. Hughes, 74, of Bridgeport, Ill., Laura L. Hughes, 34, of Lawrenceville, and two girls, ages 12 and 9, also from Lawrenceville. Roger Hughes was transported to Lawrence County Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Laura Hughes and both of the children were also transported to Lawrence County Hospital.
No additional information was released regarding the extent of the injuries or current conditions.
At the time when the Illinois State Police released information from the preliminary investigation, the investigation remained under investigation.
