A Bloomfield man is accused of stealing an extensive number of tools from a couple of contractors who were working at a Bloomfield manufacturing facility where the suspect was employed.

Andrew Edward Frazier, 30, of Owensburg and Bloomfield, was arrested on a warrant last Wednesday, February 27, by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Harvey Holt.

The warrant for Frazier’s arrest was issued after an investigation by Bloomfield Marshal Ken Tharp after Tharp was contacted on Tuesday, February 5, by someone from Metal Technologies in Bloomfield about a theft of some tools from a Metal Technologies building. The tools belonged to a couple of contractors.

Tharp spoke to the representative from Metal Technologies as well as the two contractors who provided him with a list of their items that were missing.

The lists were extensive.

After reviewing video surveillance from the Metal Technologies security system, Tharp reported that Frazier, who was an employee at the plant, reported for his 3-11 p.m. shift on Monday, February 4, and was working in the area of the plant where the thefts occurred. After his shift, he left work in a white passenger car around 11:32 p.m.

Then the same vehicle re-entered the employee parking lot at 12:43 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5, turned around and drove toward the east side of the entry gate, parked and shut the lights off. Both doors of the car then opened and two individuals exited, ran down an embankment then returned to the vehicle carrying bags which were placed in the rear seat. The car then departed through the west side gate.

When Frazier reported for work on Wednesday, February 6, his employment was terminated for alleged involvement in the theft. After signing paperwork, Frazier then spoke to Tharp in a conference room at Metal Tech.

Tharp reported Frazier admitted his involvement in the theft but would not say who else was with him. He said the stolen tools were at his residence located at 278 Grove Street in Bloomfield. (Frazier was listed on the jail log and in court records with an address in Owensburg but was apparently living in Bloomfield at the time this incident occurred.)

After the interview, Frazier was transported to his residence where he gave Tharp numerous hand tools including ratchets, extensions, sockets and gauges that were reported as stolen.

The contractors identified the tools as some of the missing tools but not all. Tharp then returned to Frazier’s residence where Frazier said he had found some more including more gauges, micrometers, a toolbox and numerous nut drivers and screw drivers. When he said that was all, Tharp told him he needed to get hold of the person who helped him and get the rest of the stolen tools.

Frazier was told to call Tharp on Thursday, February 7 but Frazier did not call and Tharp was unable to make further contact with Frazier despite numerous attempts.

A criminal case was then filed against Frazier in Greene Superior Court on Thursday, February 14, and a warrant issued for his arrest.

Frazier was taken into custody on Wednesday, February 27, transported and booked in to the Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $8,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted an $800 cash bond and was released.

When Frazier appeared in court for his initial hearing this past Monday, March 4, Greene County Public Defender Alan Baughman was appointed to represent him and he was charged with two counts of theft where the value of the property is between $750 and $50,000, both Level 6 felonies.
