Jasmine Marie Streets, 28, Bloomfield, was arrested by Indiana State Police Trooper Ben Burris yesterday, Thursday, January 21, on a warrant that was issued as a result of an investigation by Sgt. Bobby Pierce of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

The charges against Streets stem from a crash that occurred on Tuesday, December 22.

Around 9:18 p.m. that Tuesday, a woman called the sheriff’s department to report that a red passenger car was off the side of State Road 45 near Mineral-Koleen Road. She said the car was overturned in a ditch.

The caller stopped to check on people inside the car and she told a dispatcher there were two children in the vehicle, ages 8 years and 15 months, plus their mother.

Jasmine Marie Streets was identified as the driver of the vehicle, a red 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix, and the biological mother of the two children onboard.

When Sgt. Pierce arrived on the scene and talked to Streets, he said she was complaining of injuries and was being loaded into an ambulance. According to Sgt. Pierce, Streets said she was northbound on SR 45 near Mineral-Koleen Road when another vehicle traveling southbound crossed into her lane and she attempted to avoid the vehicle by swerving off the side of the road. She allegedly said she caught soft ground and overcorrected in an attempt to get back on the road.

Sgt. Pierce reported Street’s vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest on its side. He said the vehicle had also hit a tree which caused the airbags to deploy.

Sgt. Pierce reported there was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Street’s breath and she had glassy eyes and slurred speech. When asked if she had been drinking, she allegedly said she drank a half pint of Fireball whiskey around 5 p.m.

Regarding the smell of alcohol, Streets allegedly claimed she had just bought a new bottle of the Fireball whiskey and it broke during the crash and the whiskey must be on her clothing. However, when GCSD Deputy Zachary Goad found the bottle in the car, it was intact but the seal was broken which caused deputies to suspect she may have been drinking the whiskey while driving.

Due to possible injuries, standard field sobriety testing was not conducted, but Streets did take a portable breath test on the scene. Results showed her BAC was .17. She agreed to further testing and a blood draw was taken at IU Health Bloomington Hospital after she was transported via ambulance – results pending.

Sgt. Pierce said the children did not show obvious signs of injury but they were transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital by ambulance to be admitted and checked by medical staff.

In addition, Greene County Department of Child Services was contacted and Sgt. Pierce reported DCS responded to the hospital and the children were placed in the care of a grandmother.

No additional information is available regarding injuries or current status.

Last week, the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office filed criminal charges against Streets and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

After she was taken into custody, she was booked into the Greene County Jail at 11:31 a.m. yesterday. Her bond was set at $20,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of late Friday, she had not yet posted bond and was still in jail.

The date for her initial hearing is not yet set but when she appears in Greene Superior Court, she will be formally charged with four felonies and one misdemeanor:
