Passenger accused of possession of marijuana

A Linton woman who was a passenger in a car stopped for speeding in Jasonville is accused of possession of marijuana.

Brooke Callicoat, 18, Linton, is being summoned to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing in March on a preliminary charge of possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.

Callicoat was a passenger in a white Saturn car that was stopped by Chief Ryan Van Horn of the Jasonville Police Department on Sunday, January 19.

Around 2:50 p.m., Van Horn saw the Saturn westbound on State Road 48 traveling faster than normal. Radar showed it was going 66 mph in a 50 mph zone and Van Horn initiated a stop on SR 48 just west of Jasonville.

The driver was identified as Randy Jackson of Terre Haute. He provided a learner’s permit from Kentucky and a vehicle registration from Michigan. The registration was expired.

During the stop, JPD Officers Jacob Gambill and Andrew Duguay arrived with Duguay’s K9 partner Blitz and Blitz alerted to the presence of a controlled substance in the vehicle when a free air sniff was conducted.

Callicoat allegedly said there were no illegal substances in the vehicle. When asked if she had it on her, Callicoat allegedly pulled out a clear baggie containing a green plant material that later field-tested positive as marijuana.

Both driver and passenger were released from the scene.

The driver got a written warning for speeding and a citation for an expired registration.

Callicoat will be getting a summons to court.
