A Bloomfield driver was stopped because her license plate light was out. But during the stop, a deputy detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Jessica T. Smith, 37, Bloomfield, is being summoned to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on a charge of possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, as a result of a traffic stop initiated by Deputy Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

Around 10 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, Deputy Allor was on State Road 45 in Solsberry when he saw the license plate light was out on a silver 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. A traffic stop was conducted near SR 45 and Woodview Hills Lane.

Smith was the driver with a young child passenger in the back seat. Deputy Allor reported he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and he saw “roaches” on a foam cup lid in the vehicle.

With assistance from GCSD Sgt. Bobby Pierce, Smith’s vehicle was searched and Deputy Allor reported they found a hand-rolled cigarette containing green plant material in a bag on the front passenger seat as well as a green metal smoking device.

Smith allegedly admitted the items belonged to her.

Smith got a warning ticket for the license plate light but was informed a charge would be filed for possession of marijuana.

She is scheduled to be in court in March.
