Officer says driver tested with BAC of .318

When an LPD officer saw a pickup truck cross over a center line three times last weekend, it was lights and sirens. The driver failed sobriety tests and ended up in jail. The officer reported the driver had a blood alcohol concentration of .318 – close to four times the legal limit of .08.

Chadd E. Anderson, 46, Linton, was operating a white Dodge pickup truck westbound on State Road 54 in the evening hours last Saturday, August 18.

Officer Joe Riley of the Linton Police Department was on patrol in Linton when he got a call from another LPD officer, Debbie McDonald. Officer McDonald said she had received an anonymous call about a possibly impaired driver who was westbound on SR 54 coming from the Bloomfield area and headed toward Linton. They described Anderson’s truck.

Officer Riley drove eastbound on the highway and spotted the truck which made a turn south onto County Road 1000 West, then turned into Walmart and continued through the Walmart parking lot toward the stoplight at the entrance to Burger King on the highway. The truck then made a turn at the light to travel westbound on SR 54 again.

Officer Riley was following the truck and once it was back on the highway, he reported seeing the truck cross the solid double-yellow center line three times. He initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of A Street NE and 8th Street NE.

Riley reported the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Anderson’s truck and asked him to step out of the vehicle for field sobriety testing. The officer completed one test then due to hazards from the amount of traffic, transported Anderson to the Linton Police Department where Anderson allegedly failed all field sobriety testing.

Anderson agreed to take a chemical test which was administered by LPD Officer Nick Yingling, a certified chemical test operator.

Riley reported the result of the chemical test showed Anderson had a blood alcohol concentration of .318.

Anderson was transported to Greene County General Hospital for a medical clearance before he was transported and booked in to the Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

When Anderson appears in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing, he will be charged with:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,
  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and
  • Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.
