Amanda Dawn Wheeler, 42, Jasonville, was arrested by Sgt. Bobby Pierce of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department early Wednesday, July 1.

When Wheeler appeared in court for an initial hearing on Tuesday of this week, July 7, her bond was set at $20,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed, but as of late today, she has not yet posted bond and remained in the Greene County Jail.

Sgt. Pierce was dispatched late on Tuesday, June 30, to a residence in the Jasonville area after a woman called the sheriff’s department and said there was a blue minivan parked in the driveway – she provided the plate number. She said there was a man and a woman in the van and they believed the woman was high, and she said the man had gotten out of the van and ran off into the woods.

Sgt. Brian Pilant of the Jasonville Police Department also responded and he was first to arrive. He determined who the man was who had run off and knew he had active warrants out for his arrest.

Wheeler was determined to be the driver and her driver’s license was suspended.

When Sgt. Pierce arrived and talked to Wheeler, she allegedly admitted she had been driving when she and the man got into an argument and she pulled into the driveway. When they were confronted by the homeowners who said they were calling police, the man ran off.

Officer Joe Riley of the Linton Police Department then arrived on scene to assist with his K-9 partner Kona. During a free air sniff around the van, Kona alerted to the presence of controlled substances.

Sgt. Pierce reported during the search of the vehicle, officers located a smoking device with burnt residue, a pouch with white residue inside along with two syringes that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. They also found a green leafy plant material inside a zip pouch.

Wheeler denied knowing the items were in the van and said she borrowed the van and maybe they were left in it or belonged to the man who ran away. However, she allegedly did later admit the smoking device belonged to her.

Wheeler was booked into the Greene County Jail around 2:02 a.m. on July 1.

She has been charged with:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,

  • Unlawful possession of syringe, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
