Driver facing charges after hitting a house in Linton last Friday
/The driver of a red Camaro, who spun his tires at a stop sign then lost control, crashed into a house in Linton last Friday afternoon. Now he’s facing charges of criminal recklessness and leaving the scene of an accident.
William E. Hooker III, 29, Linton, is being summoned to appear in court in August for an initial hearing on misdemeanor charges connected to an incident that occurred in Linton last Friday, July 3.
On that Friday afternoon, there was a crash in Linton on H Street NW where a vehicle hit a house then left the scene.
Officer Adam King of the Linton Police Department was dispatched at 4:07 p.m. and took photos of the damage at the scene. Then he was advised that LPD Chief Clark had just talked to two men in a red Chevrolet Camaro with front end damage. Chief Clark saw the vehicle slide sideways in a roadway and when the vehicle stopped at a residence on Main Street, Chief Clark stopped and advised the driver and a passenger to stop the reckless driving. At that point, Chief Clark didn’t know the vehicle had also just hit a house.
Hooker was identified as the driver, with one male passenger on board.
Officer King then went to the residence where Chief Clark had seen the two and he was able to locate and talk to the passenger who said Hooker had come by his house earlier to show off Hooker’s car. The two of them went for a ride and the passenger allegedly said when Hooker was at a stop sign at 3rd Street NW and H Street NW, he started to spin the tires, lost control and hit the house. They then left he scene and went back to the passenger’s residence to put the car in the garage. That’s when Chief Clark stopped there.
When Officer King later talked to Hooker, he confirmed he spun his tires at a stop sign and lost control. He allegedly admitted he did hit the house but got scared and left the scene. He said he parked the car in the passenger’s garage until he could talk to his father. The father, who was present during the interview with Officer King, advised he would take care of the damages if the homeowner’s contacted him.
Hooker is facing preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, a Class B misdemeanor, and leaving the scene of an accident, a Class B misdemeanor.
