Kevin Michael McBride, 62, Linton, was arrested by Officer Adam King of the Linton Police Department on Monday, March 22.

Officer King, the investigating officer, and other LPD officers were dispatched at 5:15 p.m. Monday to a residence on 8th Street NE in Linton to a fight involving a firearm in progress.

When Officer King arrived, he found two men on the floor in a garage, wrestling to get control of a gun. Both men were told to drop the weapon and stop fighting. Officer King separated them and secured the firearm.

McBride, one of the two men, allegedly said he was there at his ex-wife’s residence because he saw the other man’s truck in the driveway and he was going to kill him because the other man had been talking bad about his grandchildren. McBride was advised of his Miranda rights and later declined to talk further with officers.

When Officer King talked to the other man, he said his girlfriend had asked him to come over to her home and change the oil in her lawn mower and he was working on that in the garage when McBride showed up and yelled that he (McBride) was going to kill him (the other man).

McBride allegedly entered the garage without permission and is accused of slamming the other man’s head against a wall and when the other man fell to the floor, McBride allegedly grabbed his head again and slammed it on the concrete floor.

The other man, who is the victim in this case, told the officer he felt his life was threatened and he pulled his Smith & Wesson pistol. McBride was trying to disarm the victim when police walked in.

Officer King reported the victim had a red scratch on his face as well as abrasions and swelling on the top right of his head.

McBride was taken into custody and transported. On the way to the Greene County Jail, McBride said he was having chest pains so Officer King diverted to Greene County General Hospital.

Once Officer King and McBride arrived at the hospital and they got out of the patrol vehicle, McBride allegedly threw himself to the ground and yelled, “Why would you do that?” McBride was advised that it would all be on camera and hospital security then assisted with escorting McBride into the building.

After McBride saw a doctor and was medically cleared, he was transported to jail and booked in at 6:22 p.m.

During transport and booking, back on the scene, LPD Chief Paul Clark interviewed the victim and his girlfriend, and took photos of the man’s injuries and the garage.

Chief Clark reported that McBride was not given permission to enter the garage and the victim said the attack was unprovoked. The victim alleged he had received threats from McBride in the past but this was the first time he had been attacked.

The extent of the victim’s injuries is not known but he intended to go to the hospital for treatment.

McBride’s bond was set at $20,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted $2,000 and been released from jail.

Yesterday a criminal case was filed against McBride. He will be charged with:

  • Intimidation – threat is to commit a forcible felony, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.

McBride is scheduled to appear at his initial hearing on Monday afternoon, April 5.

(Editor’s note: This story was not posted yesterday because charges had not yet been approved by a judge. In most cases, GreeneStreets waits to post until approval. Another note: McBride is not being charged with burglary. The Greene County Prosecutor filed charges, which have now been approved, for two counts: The felony intimidation and the misdemeanor battery.)
