Linton woman arrested on charges of possession of cocaine and marijuana
/After an unoccupied vehicle was located near Star Lake at Greene-Sullivan State Forest on June 16 with a plant-like substance and rolling papers in plain view in the driver’s seat as well as three plastic bags containing a white powdery substance, an 18-year-old Linton woman was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine.
Indiana Conservation Officer (ICO) Matt Landis arrested Alison Stevens on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine.
At approximately 6:20 p.m., ICOs Landis and Charles Martin were patrolling in Greene-Sullivan State Forest when Landis noticed a vehicle parked near the Star Lake boat ramp, which is near County Road 1475 West, north of County Road 200 South. The vehicle was unoccupied, so Landis and Martin, according to the probable cause affidavit, walked toward the lake to see if someone was fishing along the trail. When they walked past the vehicle, Landis noticed, in plain view, a plant-like substance and rolling papers in the driver’s seat.
As the officers continued toward the trail, two individuals – Stevens and a male – told officers they weren’t fishing, just visiting the area. Stevens was determined to be the driver of the vehicle and according to the probable cause affidavit admitted the plant-like substance was in fact marijuana. Stevens allegedly told the officers they could take the marijuana, which belonged to her, and she and the male would leave. When opening the vehicle door to seize the marijuana, Landis reported detecting a strong odor of the drug. Stevens admitted there was a grinder near the vehicle’s console as well as a glass bong under the driver’s seat.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Landis also located an unlabeled prescription bottle containing one pill. Stevens told the officers she had a valid prescription for the medication but did not have it on her then. While checking the console for additional marijuana, Landis located a clear plastic bag containing three smaller bags with a white powdery substance inside of them.
Stevens alleged the white powdery substance was cocaine. According to the probable cause, Stevens said the cocaine did not belong to her, instead, she was holding onto it for a friend from work. Landis explained that if the friend came forward and admitted responsibility, he could further investigate; however, Stevens said she didn’t think her co-worker would cooperate and admit responsibility. Stevens alleged the male subject with her was not responsible for any of the contraband inside her vehicle.
Stevens was transported to Greene County Jail. There, ICO Landis field tested the white powdery substance, which provided a positive result for cocaine.
She was initially held without bond in Greene County Jail. After an initial hearing in Greene Superior Court on June 21, bond was set at $4,500 surety with 10 percent cash allowed. She was released from jail after posting $450.
She’s been charged with possession of cocaine, a Level 6 Felony and possession of marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor.
