Linton man arrested on warrant, possession of marijuana, controlled substance
/When a warrant was served on a 34-year-old Linton man on July 9, he had charges added as he was in possession of marijuana and a controlled substance at the time of his arrest.
Linton Police Department Officers Mitchell Eberhardt, Bobby Pierce, and Jerrad Pirtle were in the 2nd Street Northwest and Vincennes Street area when officers Eberhardt and Pierce recognized Elijah Haldeman walking down the sidewalk. The officers were aware he had an active warrant.
Officers made contact with Haldeman who, according to the probable cause affidavit written by Officer Pirtle, said he had “smoke” in his pocket. While searching Haldeman, Officer Pirtle located a white container in his right front shorts pocket that contained a leaf-life substance. The substance later field-tested positive for marijuana. A clear plastic bag with a leaf-like substance was located in his front left shorts pocket. The substance was field-tested for marijuana but was negative. According to the probable cause, Officer Pirtle and Officer Pierce believed the substance to be synthetic based on their law enforcement training.
While en route to Greene County Jail, Haldeman alleged both substances were marijuana, not synthetic drugs.
Haldeman’s been charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Class A Misdemeanor and possession of marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor. He is also facing charges related to his warrant, which include: battery against a public safety official, a Level 6 Felony, battery by bodily waste when the victim is a public safety officer, a Level 6 Felony, and public intoxication, endangers his/her life, a Class B Misdemeanor.
He appeared in Greene Superior Court on July 13 where his bond was set at $10,000 with no 10% allowed.
