Robert Hugh Soncrant, 56, Linton, was arrested by Det. Logan Hobbs of the Linton Police Department last Tuesday afternoon, September 1.

Det. Hobbs, the investigating officer, and LPD Chief Paul Clark responded around 1:19 p.m. last Tuesday to a report of someone with a gun making a threat at the Sunoco gas station on A Street NE in Linton.

When they arrived, the individual who allegedly was making threats was gone, but they talked to a man who said he’d been threatened and another man who was a witness.

After the officers were told Robert Soncrant had allegedly threatened the man in the parking lot of the station, they headed to Soncrant’s residence on East Vincennes Street and found him standing outside next to his vehicle.

Soncrant was ordered to walk to an open area and raise his shirt so Det. Hobbs could see his waistband. Soncrant had a handgun tucked in his pants at the small of his back. Chief Clark secured the handgun and Det. Hobbs transported Soncrant to the police department.

At the police department, the officers discovered the handgun was a BB gun that replicated an actual firearm, entirely black with no markings or colors that indicated it was not an actual firearm.

Soncrant said the man owed him $385 and when he saw him, he confronted him with things becoming heated and both of them yelling. He denied using the “handgun.”

When the man who was threatened was interviewed, he said while he was at the gas station, Soncrant pulled into the lot and confronted him. He also said it became heated with both of them yelling, but alleged Soncrant pointed a firearm at his head and said he was going to kill him. He said he ran toward the station and Soncrant left in his vehicle.

A witness said he watched the two men argue. He said he could not see if Soncrant pointed the gun at the man but he did see the gun in Soncrant’s right hand.

Soncrant was booked into the Greene County Jail at 2:54 p.m. His bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $400 and was released later the same day.

Soncrant is facing a charge of intimidation where the threat is to commit a forcible felony, a Level 6 felony. Soncrant’s initial hearing has been set for September 21.
