Thomas Carl Jaroscak, 43, Linton, was arrested by Deputy Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department late yesterday, Tuesday, October 20, on a warrant that was issued for Jaroscak’s arrest on Monday, October 19, as a result of an investigation by Officer John Agan of the Linton Police Department.

An incident allegedly occurred at the Walmart store in Linton in late August. It didn’t come to light until later when an Asset Protection Associate was reviewing the store’s video surveillance and contacted police. Officer Agan was assigned and began an investigation in mid-September. Last Friday, October 16, a criminal case was filed against Jaroscak and a warrant issued for his arrest on Monday.

According to Officer Agan, Walmart provided video that showed Jaroscak entered Walmart and went to the paint department where he selected multiple cans of spray paint, tape and sandpaper. Jaroscak then went through a self-checkout lane at the front of the store and scanned one can of spray paint three times. The scanned can was a less expensive can of spray paint but he had two other more expensive cans of Rust-Oleum spray paint that he did not scan. Jaroscak allegedly exited the store without making full payment for the more expensive spray paint. The cost of each can of Rust-Oleum was $3.96 so Jaroscak allegedly stole merchandise worth a total of $7.92.

Officer Agan made several attempts to talk to Jaroscak and Jaroscak allegedly agreed to meet the officer at the police department on October 1 but he failed to show up.

In addition to the alleged theft, Jaroscak is accused of trespassing because in April of 2015, Jaroscak was prohibited from being on any property owned by Walmart.

Jaroscak was booked into the Greene County last night at 11:50 p.m. His bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of this evening, he has not posted bond.

Jaroscak is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court in the morning, Thursday, October 22, for an initial hearing when he will be formally charged with theft with a prior conviction for either theft or conversion, a Level 6 felony, and criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor.
