Linton man accused of battery on ex-girlfriend
/After an LPD officer took a report of battery on Saturday, a Linton man was arrested and allegedly admitted he’d been in a verbal altercation with his ex-girlfriend that had turned into a physical altercation.
Rex Allen Ake, 28, Linton, was arrested by Officer Nick Yingling of the Linton Police Department over the holiday weekend.
On the Fourth of July, Officer Yingling took a report from a woman who said she was battered by her ex-boyfriend. She said Ake had invited her to his house on SE 3rd Street in Linton and she agreed to go see him but when she got there, Ake was already agitated and was yelling and cursing.
Ake was upset that she was seeing someone else, and also accused her of cheating on him when they were together. She said she was not able to calm him down.
Ake is accused of grabbing the woman by her shoulders and squeezing them then grabbing her by the throat and squeezing.
Officer Yingling learned Ake had a warrant out for his arrest, issued out of Sullivan County and when he went to Ake’s residence, LPD Officers Kyle Robison, Adam King and Janzen Franklin arrived with him.
When Ake was taken into custody, he confirmed his ex-girlfriend had been at his house earlier, confirmed they got into a verbal altercation and confirmed it got physical. He allegedly said he pushed her.
According to Officer Yingling, Ake has a previous conviction for battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
In the latest case, he’s facing a preliminary charge of domestic battery, with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony.
Ake was booked into the Greene County Jail at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, July 5. His bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of Monday evening, he had not yet posted bond and was still in jail. The date for his initial hearing has not yet been set.
