Lewis woman arrested on OWI, marijuana charges after early morning traffic stop
/A Lewis woman was arrested early Saturday after police say she was speeding, swerving, and later registered a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit during a traffic stop along State Road 67.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene Superior Court, Cassondra M. Grzelak, 33, was arrested on Nov. 22 on preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, operating while intoxicated with endangerment, and possession of marijuana, all misdemeanors.
Around 1:20 a.m., Worthington Police Officer Chandler Willard was patrolling southbound on State Road 67 when he observed a black 2014 Infiniti QX60 traveling at a high rate of speed. Willard reported that the vehicle crossed the fog line multiple times and drove onto the shoulder before he initiated a traffic stop just south of County Road 550 North.
Grzelak, the driver and sole occupant, told the officer she had consumed one alcoholic beverage after leaving her place of employment in Worthington. Willard noted her slurred speech, glossy eyes, and the odor of alcohol. Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Shelton was called to conduct standardized field sobriety tests.
Deputy Shelton reported that Grzelak showed signs of impairment during the walk-and-turn test. She consented to a portable breath test, which returned a result of 0.113 BAC. Officers also reported a strong smell of alcohol coming from her person.
Grzelak was arrested for operating while intoxicated and agreed to a certified chemical test. She was transported to Greene County General Hospital, where a voluntary blood draw was completed.
During an inventory of her vehicle, deputies located a small rolled bag containing a green plant-like substance behind the passenger seat. Grzelak admitted the substance was marijuana, and field testing later confirmed it.
Grzelak was booked into the Greene County Jail on the OWI and marijuana charges.
According to jail records, her bond was set at $4,500 surety with 10% cash allowed. She was released after posting $450.
