Crystal Lynn Wiley, 36, Jasonville, was arrested by Sgt. Brian Pilant of the Jasonville Police Department yesterday, Monday, June 8, on a warrant for her arrest that was issued last Friday.

The arrest warrant was issued as a result of an investigation by JPD Chief Ryan Van Horn.

Van Horn was called in early May by a family case manager from the Greene County Department of Child Services about a possible battery by Crystal Wiley to a young child.

A probable cause affidavit prepared by Van Horn explains the child was placed in Wiley’s home by the Marion County Department of Child Services in October of 2018. When Van Horn interviewed the child, he said the child was able to answer all his general questions and had no problem articulating their thoughts.

Wiley is accused of taking a physical action against the child that caused the child to hit their head, specifically their ear, on a dresser. The disagreement was apparently over food. The child said Wiley was upset and hit them because the child did not eat all of their food. Wiley said she was upset because the child was wasting food and they don’t have a lot.

When Wiley was booked into jail before 8 p.m. yesterday, her bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $400 and was released later the same night.

Wiley is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on June 22 for an initial hearing when she will be formally charged with battery on a person less than 14 years old, a Level 6 felony.
