An inmate who’s been in the Greene County Jail since July has allegedly placed over a thousand phone calls from the jail in an attempt to contact a woman who doesn’t want to talk to him.

William Wayne Lacer, 39, Linton, has been an inmate in the Greene County Jail since July 7. After being sentenced earlier this month, he’s currently serving time on a conviction for intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony.

A new criminal case was filed against Lacer last week following an investigation by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Davis Aerne.

Deputy Aerne began looking into phone calls placed by Lacer after someone called the sheriff’s department and said Lacer was stalking a woman from jail.

When Deputy Aerne met with the woman, she told him she began to talk to Lacer via Facebook last spring but after his arrest in July, she asked him several times to stop calling her.

The woman claimed she receives numerous calls from Lacer ever day, sometimes over 20.

Deputy Aerne reported than when he checked the call logs for outgoing calls from Lacer to the woman, he found that prior to November 6, she had been called 1,153 times by Lacer.

Aerne said although Lacer was instructed by jail staff to not contact the woman anymore, the very next day he attempted to call her six times.

Aerne reported that when he talked to Lacer, Lacer confirmed he was told by staff to not contact the woman but he believed there was a misunderstanding.

Lacer has appeared in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing in this case. He’s been charged with harassment by means of telephone calls, a Class B misdemeanor.
