ISP Master Trooper Mark Clephane retires after 33 years of service
/Last week, after 33 years of dedicated service, Master Trooper Mark Clephane worked his final shift and went "Off Duty" by going 10-42 with the Indiana State Police. A few years ago, Trooper Clephane was awarded a Combat Action Award for assisting injured officers during a gun battle in Greene County.
M/Trooper Clephane is an Indianapolis native who graduated from Southport High School in 1985. He then went on to serve in The United States Air Force as a Security Police Officer primarily serving as a Personal Protection Detail for high-ranking officials until he was Honorably Discharged in 1988.
He began his career with ISP in November of 1988 when he graduated from the 46th Recruit Academy. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the Bloomington District where he spent his career serving as a Trooper until 1994 when he became a District Detective. In 1996, Clephane was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant to serve as the District Investigative Commander until 2009 when he returned as a "Road Trooper" serving Monroe and Lawrence Counties.
M/Trp. Clephane graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ball State University in 1995 and has completed work toward his master’s degree. He also attended the Northwestern University Traffic Institute School of Police Staff and Command and graduated with the top academic GPA in the class. M/Trp. Clephane was a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon and a Hostage Negotiator along with being awarded a Combat Action Award for his courageous performance where he assisted injured officers during a gun battle at a Greene County incident in 2012.
Indiana State Police Bloomington District Commander Lieutenant Paul Bucher said, "Mark has been a valuable asset to the District for over three decades, his dedication to public safety and to the citizens of Indiana is commendable."
In Retirement, M/Trp. Clephane will begin his next career as an Enforcement Agent with the Indiana Gaming Commission. He is also looking forward to spending more time with his wife Amy, and their five adult children and three grandchildren. The ISP tradition will continue as his twin brother Master Trooper Mike Clephane continues to serve the Bloomington District and his daughter Haley, who just received her conditional offer of employment, is scheduled to begin the 82nd Recruit academy in January 2022.
