I-69 traveler with BAC of .167 gets to visit Greene County Jail

An out-of-state traveler on I-69 wound up in the Greene County Jail last Thursday after their erratic driving behavior attracted the attention of an ISP trooper.

Kelley Lynn Carpenter

Kelley Lynn Carpenter, 55, Clarksville, Tennessee, was arrested by Indiana State Police Trooper Ben Burris last Thursday, June 23, during a traffic stop that was initiated by ISP Sergeant Richard Roseberry on I-69.

Sergeant Roseberry was northbound on I-69 near the 89 mile marker, wearing plain clothes in an unmarked vehicle, when he saw a white 2020 Volkswagen Jetta change lanes without signaling, drive into the median twice, change lanes without signaling again and then weave between lanes. He initiated a traffic stop and requested backup.

Trooper Burris responded around 3:30 PM along with ISP Sergeant Ryan Miller.

Carpenter was identified as the driver with a Tennessee driver’s license. Trooper Burris reported he could smell the odor of alcohol coming from Carpenter and she had trouble keeping her balance, continually reaching out to steady herself against his patrol vehicle. Carpenter allegedly failed standard field sobriety tests on the scene and was transported to the Greene County Sheriff's Department.

Carpenter agreed to take a certified breath test which showed she had an alcohol concentration equivalent to .167. The legal limit is .08.

Carpenter was booked into the Greene County Jail at 5:29 PM and held on a surety only bond.

Carpenter is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for her initial hearing on July 11 to face charges of:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor, and

  • Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.
