Dominic Manuel Nunez, 27, of Indianapolis, was arrested by Indiana State Police Master Trooper Eric Nash on last Friday morning, November 29.

Trooper Nash was patrolling I-69 that morning and was southbound near the 86 mile marker when he saw a small black hatchback northbound, going faster than all the other traffic. He activated the radar and clocked the vehicle going 100 mph in a 70 mph zone.

Trooper Nash hit the lights and siren and cut across the median to pursue. Near the crossing over US 231, when he could see the vehicle ahead of him, he noticed the driver leaning over to the passenger side at least three times.

Once stopped, the driver, identified as Nunez, had a difficult time getting his driver’s license out of his wallet and the trooper said he detected the odor of alcohol. But Nunez allegedly said he didn’t have any alcohol in the vehicle and had not consumed any for a couple of days. But he refused to take a portable breath test on the scene and was transported to the sheriff’s department.

Nash reported Nunez failed field sobriety testing then refused to take a chemical test. Nash obtained a warrant and Nunez was transported to Greene County General Hospital where a blood sample was obtained – results are pending.

Nunez was then booked into the Greene County Jail.

When Nash returned to the vehicle to perform the required inventory, he reported finding a cold half-full can of Redd’s Wicked Apple Ale in a white plastic shopping bag along with a bag of potato chips. The bag was sitting on the floor of the passenger side of the vehicle.

Nunez is facing preliminary charges of:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and

  • Reckless driving at unreasonable speed that endangers safety, a Class C misdemeanor.

His bond was set at $4,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $450 and was released. He is scheduled to appear in court for his initial hearing on December 12.
