Danial Shaun Bedell, 36, of Vincennes, was apprehended and booked into jail late Saturday by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Bobby Pierce.

Last Saturday, June 8, the Knox County Sheriff’s Department contacted the Greene County Sheriff’s Department to let them know a pursuit in progress was heading toward Greene County and to ask for assistance from Greene County law enforcement.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Department advised that KCSD Deputy Kyle Evans attempted to stop a gold Dodge pickup truck for a traffic infraction on State Road 67 in Knox County but the driver refused to stop.

GCSD Deputy Sgt. Bobby Pierce, the investigating officer, and Deputy Alan Jackson responded to the  pursuit that was northbound on SR 67.

At some point, Deputy Jackson deployed “Magnum Spike” stop sticks and the fleeing pickup truck hit the sticks then the tires on the truck began to deteriorate.

The pickup truck entered Lyons with KCSD Deputy Evans right behind it, followed by GCSD Sgt. Bobby Pierce then Deputy Jackson with all three deputies in fully-marked patrol vehicles with lights and sirens activated.

With the tires failing on the pickup, it turned off the highway and headed east on Broad Street in Lyons. Sgt. Pierce said the truck stopped at County Road 225 South just east of Lyons after three tires had worn down to the rims.

The driver, identified as Bedell, and a passenger were ordered to get out of the truck, show their hands and get on the ground.

Sgt. Pierce said Bedell refused to comply, kept dropping his hands, kept standing back up after going to his knees, kept yelling at officers and even after he got on the ground, he resisted handcuffing.

According to the narrative written by Sgt. Pierce, “deputies wrestled with Bedell” and Pierce deployed his Taser twice before Bedell was taken into custody.

Bedell allegedly showed signs of intoxication and Knox County deputies found a bottle of vodka tucked next to the driver’s seat as well as a syringe between the seat and the driver’s door. Pierce wrote, “Alcohol and methamphetamine usage are suspected.” Additional charges are expected to be filed against Bedell in Knox County.

The Greene County Ambulance Service responded to the scene to check Bedell and the Taser probes were removed from his lower back area.

Bedell was then transported and booked into the Greene County Jail around 10:15 p.m. Saturday, June 8.

Bedell is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court tomorrow morning, Wednesday, June 12 to be formally charged with:

  • Resisting law enforcement with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony.

  • Resisting law enforcement – knowingly or intentionally forcibly resists, a Class A misdemeanor.
