Jana L’Shawn Hazelwood, 29, Evansville, is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing early this Thursday, December 10. She was arrested by Indiana State Police Trooper Eric Nash on Saturday afternoon, November 28.

Hazelwood was the driver of a white 2013 Ford Escape, northbound on I-69, passing another vehicle at what the trooper thought was a high rate of speed. He activated the radar which showed she was going 97 mph in a 70 mph zone.

During the stop, she said she didn’t know she was going that fast and the trooper said he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from her vehicle. He asked her where it was located inside the vehicle and she indicated the “blunt” she had been smoking was near her seat on the floor.

Trooper Nash reported marijuana was found on both the front driver’s and passenger’s floorboards as well as the center console.

Hazelwood was transported to Greene County General Hospital for a blood draw – results pending, then booked into the Greene County Jail at 1:07 p.m. Her bond was set at $4,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $450 and was released the next day.

Hazelwood is facing preliminary charges of possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle with a Schedule I or II controlled substance in the body, a Class C misdemeanor.
