Erratic driving results in arrest for OVWI
/A Bloomfield woman was arrested for OVWI after a deputy reported her vehicle was weaving and she had crossed the double yellow line twice.
Armonda Marie Riggs, 36, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Alan Jackson of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Saturday, April 10.
Riggs was the driver of a gray 2014 Jeep Wrangler that was stopped by Deputy Jackson at 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, on State Road 54 east of Corwin Road for erratic driving behavior. Deputy Jackson had been traveling behind the Jeep and reported that within approximately a mile, the Jeep crossed a double yellow line twice, crossed the white line and was weaving in its lane.
Deputy Jackson said that during the stop, he could see an alcoholic beverage container sitting in a cup holder in the center console in plain view and he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Riggs.
Riggs allegedly admitted she had been drinking with friends before driving and said she was going home. When asked to step out of the vehicle, she didn’t shut the vehicle off and was allegedly staggering as she walked toward the patrol vehicle.
Riggs failed standard field sobriety testing on the scene and at the sheriff’s department after she was transported. When a chemical test was administered, insufficient samples resulted in the deputy requesting a search warrant for a blood draw which was taken by EMS personnel at the sheriff’s department – results pending.
Riggs was booked into the Greene County Jail at 3:13 a.m. Her bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $400 and was released later the same day.
Riggs retained Defense Attorney Sam Shapiro of Bloomington to represent her and the defense waived the initial hearing.
Riggs has been charged with:
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor, and
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor.
