Chadd E. Anderson, 47, of Linton, was arrested south of Worthington by Linton Police Officer Debbie McDonald on Monday night, December 3.

It must have been a busy night. Officer McDonald was dispatched around 5 p.m. to Worthington to provide assistance to WPD Officer Russell Walls. After she arrived on a scene, a vehicle pulled up and a passenger said a white Dodge truck with a steel tailgate going through Worthington had almost hit six cars head on.

Officer McDonald then drove south through Worthington and continued south on State Road 67. She said as she neared the flasher light at the intersection of SR 67 and US 231, there was a vehicle in front of her but she could see around it and the vehicle in front was a white Dodge truck.

With McDonald following, she reported the truck crossed the center line twice and crossed the fog line four times before she could get around the vehicle in front of her – they were on a hill.

As soon as she got over the hill and passed the vehicle to get behind the truck, she reported the truck was running almost all the way off the asphalt. She activated the lights – the driver did not stop. She activated the siren – the driver did not stop immediately. When the driver did pull over, they were south of Pioneer.

McDonald said the driver, Chadd Anderson, had his window down and she noticed a strong smell of alcohol and saw a brown paper bag, consistent with those from a liquor store, in plain view. When she asked for his driver’s license, he allegedly acted like he didn’t hear her and just looked straight ahead. She asked two more times. The fourth time, he reached for the glove compartment, then for his wallet out of his pocket.

After she ran records checks, Anderson allegedly asked her to please take him home, he just wanted to go home and sleep. Anderson reportedly failed standard field sobriety testing on the scene and failed again after transport to the Linton Police Department where he allegedly tested with a blood alcohol concentration of .213. The legal limit is .08.

Officer McDonald said that when he got into the back seat of her patrol vehicle for transport, he told her to just take me and let me blow, “I know how this works.”

Anderson was arrested in Linton in August after an LPD officer saw him driving the same truck and said he crossed over a solid double-yellow center line three times. LPD Officer Joe Riley arrested him and reported a chemical test showed he had a blood alcohol concentration of .318.

In that first case, Anderson pleaded guilty in September to operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor, and was sentenced to 180 days in the county jail with 160 days suspended. He was given credit for 10 days already served.

He’s facing a longer list of charges in the latest case:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony,

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor,

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Level 6 felony,

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Operating a vehicle with an ACE of .15 or more with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.

Following his arrest, his bond was set at $8,000 surety with ten percent allowed. He has since posted $800 cash, been released and is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing on December 17.
