Driver arrested after he was found passed out in parking lot of business

When a driver was found passed out behind the wheel of his car parked in front of a tire store and an employee asked him what he needed, he said he was waiting on his prostitutes. Not here, said the employee. Then he said he needed new tires. An ISP Master Trooper gave him a trip to jail.

Chad Michael Pante, 43, Bloomington, formerly from Jasonville, was arrested by Indiana State Police Master Trooper Eric Nash on Friday morning, October 1.

Around 9 a.m. that day, Trooper Nash was dispatched to do a welfare check at Tieman Tire on State Road 45 near SR 58.

Dispatch advised Trooper Nash that an employee of Tieman Tire had found a man passed out inside a Mitsubishi passenger vehicle that was parked in front of their business. When the employee asked the man if he needed anything, the man allegedly indicated he was waiting on his prostitutes. The employee told him they didn’t do that there and the man then said he needed two new tires. The man then moved his vehicle off to the side to wait, and passed out again.

The man was later identified as Chad Michael Pante.

When Trooper Nash arrived on scene, Pante was either asleep or passed out. The trooper started knocking on the driver’s door window to get Pante to sit up and open the door. Trooper Nash reported smelling the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle when Pante opened the door.

Trooper Nash reported that when Pante was asked about the odor, Pante produced a small plastic bottle containing a green plant material that later field-tested positive as marijuana. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, the trooper found a glass smoking pipe containing a white powder residue in the center console.

Pante was arrested and transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 10:46 a.m. His bond was set at $500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $50 and was released later the same day.

Pante was scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing early this morning but he retained Defense Attorney Joseph Lozano of Bloomington to represent him and the defense waived the hearing.

Pante has been charged with:

  • Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and

  • Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

Pante has another case pending against him. Find the story on GreeneStreets by clicking the Tag “Chad Pante” below this story.
