Deer on the move: Teen taken to hospital after she swerved, lost control and crashed into tree

A deputy is reminding drivers to be alert for deer on the move this fall after he worked an accident on Wednesday night. A teen swerved to avoid a deer, lost control and crashed into a tree, then was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Davis Aerne responded to a crash involving one vehicle around 9:11 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, on South Walnut Grove Road north of East Mineral-Koleen Road.

A 17-year-old female from Linton was driving a white 2005 Chevrolet Impala on Walnut Grove Road when the crash occurred at 9:10 p.m.

She said a deer ran out into the roadway and as she swerved to avoid hitting the deer, she lost control of her car.

Deputy Aerne reported that when she ran off the road, the vehicle hit a tree.

The name of the teen driver was not released. She was transported to Greene County General Hospital by Greene County Ambulance Service E1 with a complaint of pain to her neck.

In addition to the sheriff’s department and ambulance service, personnel from Richland Fire Department and Taylor Township Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Deputy Aerne said during the months of October through December, deer tend to be on the move more during the two hours after sunset and the two hours before sunrise, so drivers need to be stay aware of them when traveling during those hours.
