Bloomington woman arrested on OWI charges after traffic stop in Lyons
/A Bloomington woman was arrested earlier this month after police say she was driving erratically and showed signs of intoxication during a traffic stop in Lyons.
According to court documents, Jessica Marie Dvorak, 42, of Bloomington, faces preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment .
The arrest occurred shortly after midnight on April 19. According to the affidavit, Lyons Police Department Town Marshal Chandler Willard observed a vehicle cross the center line while navigating a curve at the intersection of East Broad Street and State Road 67. Willard followed the vehicle and reported it failed to maintain a consistent speed, slowing significantly before accelerating and swaying within its lane.
Willard also reported the driver performed an unsafe U-turn on State Road 67 before continuing northbound.
A traffic stop was conducted just south of White River Valley Middle School. The driver was identified as Dvorak, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
According to the affidavit, Dvorak displayed slurred speech, bloodshot and glassy eyes, and appeared confused about her destination. She initially told the officer she was trying to return to Bloomington, later stated she was working for a delivery service, and then said she was simply driving around.
Dvorak admitted to drinking alcohol earlier in the evening, telling officers she had consumed two beers. Police reported detecting a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person.
Field sobriety tests were conducted at the scene. According to the report, Dvorak showed multiple indicators of impairment on all tests administered, including lack of balance, improper turns, and difficulty following instructions.
A portable breath test indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 0.196, according to the affidavit.
Dvorak was taken into custody and later transported to Greene County General Hospital for a blood draw. During an inventory of her vehicle, officers reported locating several empty beer cans, including one that had been crushed and placed in the driver’s side door.
Dvorak was then transported to the Greene County Jail. Her bond was set at $4,000 surety with 10% cash allowed, and she was released after posting $400.
