Linton man arrested on OWI charges after motorcycle incident

A Linton man was arrested early April 20 after police say he showed signs of intoxication following a motorcycle incident.

According to court documents, Peter Andrew Tsouchlos, 52, of Linton, was taken into custody at approximately 1:07 a.m. on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He faces additional charges of operating while intoxicated endangerment and operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license.

Officers with the Linton Police Department were first dispatched shortly before 11 p.m. on April 19 after observing a man, later identified as Tsouchlos, riding a motorcycle on 2nd Street NW. According to the affidavit, the motorcycle veered off the roadway and into a grassy area.

When Officer Jocelyn Astleford approached, Tsouchlos was attempting to lift the motorcycle and told police he had been working on it throughout the day and that the brakes had failed. Officers reported he appeared out of breath and was struggling to stand.

Astleford noted a strong odor of alcohol coming from Tsouchlos while speaking with him. He initially denied drinking that night, but later said his last drink had been the previous day.

A records check revealed Tsouchlos only held a motorcycle learner’s permit, which had expired and did not include a proper endorsement, according to the affidavit.

Field sobriety tests were conducted at the scene. Officers reported observing multiple signs of impairment, including lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes, balance issues, and difficulty completing standardized tests. A portable breath test indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 0.046, according to the report.

Tsouchlos declined a certified chemical test, and a search warrant for a blood draw was later obtained. Blood samples were collected at Greene County General Hospital shortly after midnight on April 20.

He was transported to the Greene County Jail without incident. His bond was set at $4,000 surety with 10% cash allowed.

Tsouchlos is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on April 27.
