A 40-year-old Bloomfield man found himself behind bars on Dec. 28 after he allegedly pinned a female against a wall, strangling her.

Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Zach Goad responded to a call in which Roy Matthew Arthur allegedly strangled a female and refused to leave the County Road 200 West residence in Worthington.

Worthington Police Department Chief Jacob Gambill, Worthington Police Department Officer Caleb Ray, and Indiana Conservation Officer Cole Hollingsworth arrived on the scene before Deputy Goad and were outside with Arthur. Goad and Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Caleb Shelton went inside the residence to speak with the victim.

According to the victim, the two argued regarding childcare and when he began talking to her like “crap”, she told him to leave the residence. According to the probable cause affidavit, the two were walking upstairs and arguing next to one another. She alleged he grabbed her by the throat and pinned her against the wall. Per the probable cause, she said she could not breathe and estimated she was against the wall for about one minute. When asked by Deputy Goad if she lost consciousness or felt if she was going to, she alleged she was blacking out.

A juvenile witness, who will be referred to as Witness 1, was present when the altercation took place. Witness 1 said he woke up when the two came upstairs and were arguing. He alleged the victim was telling Arthur to leave, but he refused. Witness 1 said he did not see a physical altercation, he only heard the argument.

When Deputy Goad spoke with Arthur, he alleged he didn’t do anything to the victim. He claimed the victim was unhappy and was doing this to get him thrown in jail for unknown reasons. According to the probable cause affidavit, Arthur said they discussed childcare for the following day, but he said he was unable to help as he had a “full plate”. He said he went upstairs while the victim asked him why he was touching her. He alleged he told her he wasn’t touching her. He said she was in his way and he was trying to get around her.

When Deputy Goad asked Arthur how the victim received red marks on her throat, he, according to the probable cause affidavit, said he didn’t know, saying she could have done it to herself. Deputy Goad asked Arthur if he had hit or kicked the victim, which he denied. He also denied the victim physically harmed him.

He was transported to Greene County Jail on a charge of strangulation, a Level 6 Felony. His bond was set at $8,000 surety with 10% cash allowed.

He is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on Jan. 3.
