A Bloomfield man, arrested early last Thursday, is accused of battery on both of his parents.

Levi Grant Marling, 30, was arrested on Thursday, March 28, by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Bobby Pierce. Marling was booked in to the Greene County Jail around 12:50 a.m. after Pierce responded to a 911 call late Wednesday, March 27.

Marling made the call to 911 and reported his father had hit him with a baseball bat. Sgt. Pierce responded. GCSD Deputies Alan Jackson and Cameron Frye also responded to assist.

When they arrived at the residence of the parents and talked to both, Sgt. Pierce was told Marling was having issues with his home life, had been asked to leave his own residence earlier in the day and had gone to his parent’s home. One parent said Marling had been at their house “ranting and raving” all day then became upset with his parents and became aggressive.

Marling allegedly threw flower pots off the front porch, then pushed both parents multiple times, including pushing them to the ground even though Marling was asked to leave and go back to his own home.

During this altercation, after his wife had been shoved to the floor, while he was being shoved around and swung at, the father allegedly grabbed a baseball bat and struck Marling in an effort to protect himself and his wife.

Sgt. Pierce reported that Marling appeared to be intoxicated on either drugs or alcohol and Marling later admitted he was under the influence of a drug.

Marling showed signs of an injury to the side of his face next to an eye and the left side of his face was noticeably red and swollen with a laceration. He also had an abrasion on a knee.

Marling was checked out by personnel from the Greene County Ambulance Service but he refused medical treatment.

Marling was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $3,000 surety with ten percent allowed. As of late Monday, he had not yet posted bond and remained in jail.

When he appears for his initial hearing in Greene Superior Court, Marling will be charged with two counts of domestic battery, both Class A misdemeanors, and criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor.
