Ryan Wayne Botkin, 39, of Bloomfield, formerly of Worthington, was arrested on Monday, August 12, by Sgt. Bobby Pierce of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

Botkin was booked in around 4 a.m. after Sgt. Pierce responded to a 911 call from a woman who said Botkin had been at her residence, tore up his cell phone then took her phone, let the air out of her tires then left on foot. The caller indicated Botkin was exhibiting erratic behavior.

When Sgt. Pierce arrived at the residence, located on South Dayton Street in Worthington, the woman said she didn’t want Botkin arrested but she didn’t want him to come back and she requested deputies check on his welfare. Botkin was reported to have headed east on nearby Park Street on foot.

Besides Sgt. Pierce, GCSD Deputies Alan Jackson and Davis Aerne and Jasonville Police Officer Dustin Cain also responded to assist.

Shortly after the officer spoke to the woman, Botkin was located in an alley between Jefferson and Lafayette streets, just off Main Street. When officers stopped and talked to him, he acknowledged having a disagreement with the caller but he denied taking a cell phone and said he did not damage anything that didn’t belong to him. Sgt. Pierce reported Botkin did not display odd behavior and that he answered questions appropriately.

Paperwork was then prepared and signed by the resident and by Botkin advising him to not trespass on the woman’s property. The papers were signed and dated at 2:04 a.m. and Botkin allegedly said he had lived at the Dayton Street address but no longer lived there and now lived in Bloomfield.

And then, at 3:22 a.m., Sgt. Pierce responded back to the same residence and when he arrived, he saw Botkin standing in the back yard near the alley behind the residence. Pierce said the woman was also standing outside with a flashlight telling Botkin he was trespassing. Then Botkin allegedly started cursing at her.

Botkin was taken into custody and transported to jail where his bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted $100 cash and been released.

Botkin is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on August 19 for an initial hearing on a charge of criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor.
