Anonymous tip leads to drug arrest in Linton

An anonymous tip regarding illegal drug use resulted in the July 16 early morning arrest of a 21-year-old Linton man.

LANDON CHRISTOPHER JERRELLS

Landon Christopher Jerrells was arrested on charges of intimidation, possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana following an investigation after anonymous tips were received regarding illegal drug use at his residence.

Linton Police Department Officers Cayden Walker and Janzen Franklin went to a 14th Street Northwest residence regarding the tip. Officer Walker knocked on the door and when opened, he could detect the odor of marijuana coming from the residence.

Walker advised Jerrells he was at the residence to investigate illegal drug use as well as possible underage drinking. He asked for consent to search the residence to which he responded, “let me see the warrant”, according to the probable cause affidavit written by Walker. Due to the odor of marjiuana, Walker asked the other subjects at the residence to step outside.

While Walker was preparing a search warrant to submit to the courts, Jerrells became very agitated and was yelling and screaming. Officer Franklin and Lieutenant Bobby Pierce placed Jerrells in handcuffs due to being unruly. After being detained, Reserve Officer Kent Medlock was standing with Jerrells. Jerrells said to Medlock, “take me out of these cuffs and I’ll beat your a**”.

Once the search warrant was approved, Walker and Franklin executed the search warrant.

During the search of the residence officers located multiple items of paraphernalia and clear baggies containing green plant-like material. Officers believed the plant-like material to be marijuana. Located in a closet of a southeast corner room were red, yellow, and green multicolor rubber and plastic bongs with a burnt residue in the bowl and a clear and green Ninja Turtle glass smoking device with broken bowl on the end containing burnt residue. On the arm of a brown chair in the same room, a wooden smoking device with burnt material and residue in the bowl was located.

While searching a bedroom in the far southwest corner of the house, officers located a yellow and clear glass smoking device containing burnt residue in the bowl.

During the search of the kitchen officers located a homemade bong made out of clear water bottle with socket burnt into the lid inside of a cabinet. The homemade bong contained burnt residue in the socket. In another kitchen cabinet, officers located a clear bong containing burnt residue. On the kitchen cabinet, a clear baggie containing green plant-like material was located.

After evidence was collected, Walker questioned the subjects who were at the house during the incident. The first subject stated he did not hear what Jerrells said to Reserve Officer Medlock but did observe an odor of marijuana inside the house. The second subject wasn’t able to recall what was said to Medlock besides cussing and making threats. She said she could smell marijuana while inside the residence. The third subject was able to repeat what was said to Medlock to Officer Walker but stated he did not smell any marijuana inside the house. The fourth subject was able to repeat what Jerrells said to Medlock, but stated he did not smell marijuana in the house.

Jerrells was charged with:

  • Intimidation, a Level 6 Felony

  • Possession of Majijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor

  • Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class C Misdemeanor

His bond was set at $2,500 surety with 10 percent cash allowed. He posted $250 and was released later the same day.
