Elsewhere: In Sullivan County, woman arrested for animal neglect, 26 dogs rescued
/SULLIVAN COUNTY - This morning (Tuesday, May 22) at approximately 10:15, Indiana State Police, with assistance from the Humane Society of Sullivan County, served a Sullivan Superior Court search warrant at 4220 Pine Street in Paxton. The search warrant was obtained through a tip to the Humane Society of Sullivan County and relayed to the Indiana State Police.
During the execution of the warrant, investigators and humane society workers located 26 dogs, one rabbit, and two deceased animals (decomposition too significant to determine animal type) from the various buildings on the property.
According to information released by the Indiana State Police, the animals were living in squalid conditions, and suffering from suspected skin mites, eye infections, and overwhelming filth. The property and buildings smelled strongly of urine and feces.
The resident, 44-year-old Heather Renee Allen, was incarcerated on preliminary charges of eight counts of misdemeanor Animal Neglect.
The case was investigated by ISP Detective Angie Hahn. Assisting were the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan County Prosecutor’s Office and the Humane Society of Sullivan County.
The animals were removed from the location by Humane Society employees and taken to their facility.
