Vera Mae Foutch
/Vera Mae (Copple) Foutch, age 97, formerly of Boyd (Dix) IL, went peacefully to Heaven to be with Jesus on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Owen Valley Health Center, Spencer, Indiana. She was born in Jefferson County, Illinois on September 26, 1923 to Callie Delbert Copple and Myrtle Edna (Chapman) Copple. She married Stanton Gale Foutch on April 19, 1947, in Jefferson County, Illinois.
Vera was a very devoted, life-long member of Boyd Christian Church. She glorified God by using her beautiful voice to sing solos and sing in the church choir. She was often the song leader during church services. Vera was a Sunday School teacher, many times part of a women’s volunteer church group at Oil Belt Christian Service Camp and a Bible School teacher during the summer. She worked for many years at Mooney’s Store in Boyd, IL, and as both a cook and waitress for several years at Austin’s Restaurant in Dix, IL. Some say that she “was the best pie maker ever” and her homemade sugar cookies were so good … she won 1st place in the Boyd Christian Church Bakeoff Contest that resulted in a church published cookbook containing all contestants’ recipes. Last, but not least, she was a member of the Gospel Homecoming Choir, led by John and Judy Roberts.
Family left to cherish the memory of Vera include her daughter, Nancy Lee Beverstock of Linton; granddaughters: Nanette (Roy) Potter of Shelbyville, Leigh Anne (Scott) Shields of Cumming, GA, Michele Beverstock-Snider of Brownsburg, and Melinda (Michael) Chapman, of Brownsburg; great-granddaughters: Baleigh Anne (fiancé’ Justice Keegan “JK” Tucker) Potter, of Martinsville, Tiffany Chapman, of Brownsburg, and Kelly Shields, of Cumming, GA; great-grandsons: Roy Elwood Jackson “R.J.” Potter, of Shelbyville, Joshua (Miranda) Chapman, of Brownsburg, Isaac (Haley) Beverstock, of Indianapolis, Brett (Brittany) Shields, of Atlanta, GA, and Jonathon “Yogi” (Danielle) Snider, of Indianapolis; great-great-grandson: Waylon Jonathon Beverstock, Sister-in law Doris Ann (Delbert Ray) Copple, along w/several nieces and nephews.
Vera was preceded in death, most recently, by her son-in-law, Jack Beverstock; grandparents, Henry Chapman and Maggie Belle (Prosise) Chapman; parents, Callie Delbert Copple and Myrtle Edna (Chapman) Copple; 9 siblings: Darrell Wayne (Mary) Copple, Mildred Ferne (Ken) Norfleet, Tessie Erma (Duane) Garren, Hubert Stanley (Joan) Copple, Mable Evelyn (Bob) Lamb, Lester Virgil (Erma) Copple, Delbert Ray (Doris Ann) Copple, Wilbur Dean (Bertie) Copple, and Samuel Elroy (Marilyn) Copple.
Funeral services honoring Vera’s life will be held on Saturday, May 22 at 12:00 p.m. at Meng Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Pastor Mike Hoke officiating. Family and friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Live streaming will be available on the funeral home’s website.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday July 31 at Boyd Cemetery & Boyd Christian Church, Dix, IL. Details will be available once finalized.
