Samuel D. George, Sr.
/Samuel D. George, Sr., 86, of Bloomfield, went "home" peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis surrounded by his family. He was born May 21, 1932 in Koleen, IN, the youngest of seven children of Arlo and Elsie (Wright) George.
Sam was a jack-of-all trades, being employed at the Crane Naval Weapons Support Center, farming, mechanic, truck driver and most recently with Tom Floyd repairing lawn mowers for many folks in the community.
He loved fishing, hunting, long country drives and old country music. He and his wife of 66 years, Marge, enjoyed many road trips when he was driving his semi-trucks and later traveling to visit friends and family in Michigan, Tennessee, and North and South Carolina.
"Slippery" Sam leaves behind his wife, Marge (Margaret Sparks) and five children; Beth (Clif) Seaton of Booneville, Patty (Tommy) Sullivan of Indianapolis, Teri George of Charlotte, NC, Sam Jr. (Lori) George, and Traci Harris of Bloomfield, along with his grandson, Brandon Fish of Rockport, whom he raised, his adopted 'daughter', Jeannie (Bubba) Brooks, Charleston, SC, and his best furry buddy, Teddy. He was blessed with a passel of grand-, great-, and great-great grandchildern, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited for a Celebration of Life to be held at the Walnut Grove Church Community Building in rural Bloomfield, Indiana from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018. A private burial will be scheduled at a later date at the Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, “which the grumpy old man disliked,” donations may be made to the Koleen Union Church, c/o Mr. and Mrs. Danny Gadberry, 728 Sunset Dr. Bloomfield, IN 47424.
