Paul Eugene Helms, 99, of Bloomfield, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021 at the Brown County Health and Living Community in Nashville, IN. Born June 23, 1922 in Greene County, he was the son of McKinley and Helen (Barge) Helms.

He was a veteran of WWII serving with the 94th Infantry Division in Europe. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service. He worked as a heavy truck driver at Crane. After retiring from Crane, he continued operating his bulldozer business until he was in his early 80’s. He was a farmer and member of the Pleasant Ridge Church. He lived at his home in Bloomfield until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Pauline Holtsclaw, Laura Jane Hamlin, Esther Cox, and brother George; a grandson, Samuel Earl Helms, one great-great grandchild and his wife of 70 years, Dorrotha Jean (Fuller) Helms.

Surviving relatives include: Sons, Dale Eugene Helms (Marilyn) of Bloomfield, Paul Warren Helms (Ester) of Florida, Bennie Ray Helms (Cheryl) of Bloomfield, and Steven Douglas Helms (Pam) of Bloomfield, and Mark Edward Helms (Sarah) of Florida; Grandchildren, Yvonne VanHentenryck (Perry), Dale Helms (Sara), Daniel Helms (Gredel), Rebecca Rivera (Luis), Cheryl Henderson (Jeff), Joshua Helms (Carianne), Trevor Helms, Jacob Helms (Laura), Ann Conner (Brian), Justin Helms (Grace), Jeremy Helms (Emily), Bailey Karr (Evan), and Taylor Helms (Katelyn); 27 great grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 3 at Tulip Church of God, Bloomfield, with Pastor Eugene Helms officiating. Interment will follow in Hamlin Cemetery at Mount Calvary Church.

Public visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 1 hour prior to services on Saturday at the Tulip Church of God. Arrangements are by Jenkins Funeral Home of Bloomfield.

Donations may be made to Bloomfield Chapter of FFA in honor of Paul.
