Oran Dale Reed, age 92, of Linton, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 13, 2018. He was born in Dugger on January 5, 1926, the son of Claude & Callie (Emerson) Reed.

Oran attended Linton-Stockton High School and served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II. He worked many years for General Electric in Linton as a supervisor, retiring in 1986.

Oran was a member of the American Legion Post #22 of Linton.

On June 26, 1948, Oran married the love of his life, Janet Faye Sanders. They remained happily married for almost 57 years before her passing in 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, Scott Morgan Reed, two sisters, Ola Bales & June Medcalf, and a brother, Otis Reed.

Oran is survived by a son, Greg (Debra) Reed of Clinton, a daughter, Jane Ellen (Robert) Shaw of Linton; a sister, LaDonna Meurer of Linton; seven granddaughters, MaLeia Reed (John Walters), Christina (Chris) Straw, Suzanne (Paul) Moulton, Morgan, Mackenzie, Erika, & Brett Shaw; great-children, Lindsey Reed, Ryan & Nick Straw, Jack & Elliot Moulton, Sierra, Rayden, & Lincoln Shaw, and a special brother-in-law, Herschel "Butch" Sanders.

Oran was a man of few words, mostly consisting of 4 letters. He was truly happiest being a Papa, bowling, playing guitar and drinking a cup of black coffee. He enjoyed yelling at the television during IU Basketball games and a cold beer at the end, or sometimes the beginning, of the day. If you didn’t know where you stood with Oran, his facial expressions would tell you. He was so loved and will be missed greatly by his family.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 16, 2018. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton with military rites by the American Legion Post #22.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 A.M. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Linton Community Food Pantry or the Disabled American Veterans, through the funeral home.
