Mary Rachel Collins

Mary Rachel Collins passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, compassion, music, and service that touched generations of family, friends, and community members.

Rachel was born on September 26, 1924, in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, to Patsy and Grace (Loveto) Rega. On February 14, she married the love of her life, Archie C. Collins, beginning a marriage built on love, faith, and devotion. Together they made their home in Lyons, Indiana, where they built a life centered on family, faith, and community.

Rachel’s dedication to caring for others began early in life when she served in the Cadet Nurse Corps and trained at Newton D. Baker Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia. She went on to spend her life as a nurse and caregiver, serving those in need with kindness, patience, and a generous heart. She never met a stranger and was a friend to all who knew her.

A woman of deep faith, Rachel was a devoted member of Lyons First Christian Church for many years. She faithfully served as pianist, organist, choir director, and Sunday school teacher. Music was one of the greatest joys of her life, and she shared that gift with countless others through her church and community. Whether seated at the piano or organ, Rachel’s music brought comfort, inspiration, and joy to those around her.

In addition to her love of music, Rachel enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. She found happiness in life’s simple blessings and leaves behind cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

Rachel is survived by her son, Carman (Debbie) Collins of Franklin, Indiana; her daughter, Colleen (Mark) Headley of Vincennes, Indiana; her daughter-in-law, Sue Collins of Arney, Indiana; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Jean; her husband, Archie C. Collins; and her son, Carl Collins.

Rachel’s life was a beautiful example of faith in action. Through her caring spirit, her devotion to family, her service to others, and the music she shared so generously, she made the world a better place. Her legacy will continue to live on through the many lives she touched and the family she loved so dearly.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
