Joe Michael "Mike" Kelley
/Joe Michael (Mike) Kelley, 77, of Tomball, TX, formerly of Linton, IN, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 18, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the son of Mildred (Kohr) Kelley Cravens and Joe B Kelley. He was born January 15, 1943.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Menke Kelley , son J. Merrick (Lisa ) Kelley, and grandchildren Reid Kelley and Carley Kelley, all of Tomball, TX . He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Joe W. Menke, a number of cousins and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Bill Cravens.
Mike graduated from Linton-Stockton High School in 1961, attended Butler University, Indiana University and graduated from St.Francis College, Fort Wayne, IN.
Mike and Marsha were married on April 26, 1970 in Westphalia, IN at Salem United Church of Christ. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family.
They first lived in Fort Wayne, IN where Mike helped manage an air freight business . After eight years, they moved back to Linton where Mike worked as a safety manager for Peabody Coal Company at several Indiana coal mines for 18 years and retired. Mike then worked as a construction safety specialist at Toyota Motor Manufacturing until his debilitating accident in 2008.
Mike was involved in coaching youth football and baseball teams. He was a member of the Saron United Church of Christ in Linton and served as an elder and trustee. He also was a member B.P.O. Elks #866 in Linton and was an Exalted Ruler and chairman of the Americanism committee. He was a member of Linton Masonic Lodge, Linton Civitan Club, Mizpah Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite of Wabash Valley, Greene County Shrine Club and American Society of Safety Engineers.
