James "Jim" Calvert, age 79, of Worthington, passed away at 10:45 pm on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born in Linton on February 21, 1941, the son of George "Pete" & Rosalind (George) Calvert.

Jim was a 1959 graduate of Worthington High School. He worked as a self-employed electrician in Greene and Monroe County. He later worked as a building inspector Monroe County, retiring at age 78 in October 2019.

He enjoyed working as a basketball official and coaching Junior High Basketball throughout the years. He was a member and active leader at Worthington First Christian Church.

He is survived by one daughter, Francine (Mark) Calvert Lee of Indianapolis, one son, Derek (Marcia) Calvert of Brownsville, Texas, 2 grandchildren, Morgan & Mackenzie Calvert, and a sister, Jackie (Jerry) Newsom of Worthington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Hazel (Malone) Calvert on March 4, 2010.

A public visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 from 10 am to 12 noon.

A private family service will follow. Burial will be held in Worthington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Worthington First Christian Church, through the funeral home.
