Jim Landis

Jim Landis

Jim married the love of his life, Mary E. ‘Dubbie’ (Weisgerber) Landis, in 1961.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who first and foremost always made time for his family. Jim enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking, working in his shop, but he mostly loved spending time with his friends and family. After 33 years of service, he retired from the U.M.W.A.- Peabody Coal Company, most of that time was spent at the Jasonville Shops Facility. Jim and Mary were members of the Grace Gospel Church where they were very steadfast in their beliefs.

Jim and Mary had lived in the White Rose community for over 56 years. They raised two sons, J.B.(Paula) Landis and Kelly Landis, both of Linton. Their home was always open to anyone. They enjoyed when people stopped by, whether just to talk or to have something to eat or drink. Jim had the ability to build or fix almost anything and passed this on to his family and friends countless times.  He never expected anything in return, he was just happy to help. He was a caring man who never shied away from helping those who needed it, and he was friendly to all. He never had a problem starting up a conversation with anyone. He had the “gift” of making anyone feel comfortable and at ease, like you had known him for years. He was and will always be a treasure and a blessing to his family. He will be forever cherished and never forgotten.

Family left to cherish the memory of Jim includes, his wife Mary, two sons, J.B. (Paula) and Kelly Landis (Luanne Smith), both of Linton; two grandchildren, Jacob Landis and Luke (Jerrica) Landis; two great-grandchildren, Kayden and Elania; two brothers, Jere (Bobbie) Landis and Bill Landis; one sister, Janetta (Dave) Heaton; several nieces and nephews and a list so long of others who were as close as family.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Judy Landis.
